Services

Endoscopy enables direct viewing of a large portion of the gastrointestinal tract and is used both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.  Endoscopy is highly accurate in the hands of a properly trained and experienced specialist.

DHCI or IRMC

Upper Endoscopy (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy - EGD)

The visual examiniation of the upper intestinal tract (GI tract) using a lighted, flexible video endoscope.  The upper GI tract begins with the mouth and continues with the esophagus (food tube) which carries food to the stomach and then the duodenum.

DHCI or IRMC

Esophageal Dilation

The esophagus is the long, narrow food tube (gullet) that carries food and liquid from the mouth to the stomach.  It can become blocked or injured in a variety of ways.  Esophageal dilatation is the technique used to stretch or open the blocked portion of the esophagus.

DHCI or IRMC

Colonoscopy

The visual examiniation of the large intestine (colon) using a lighted, flexible video endoscope.  The colon begins in the right lower abdomen and looks like a big question mark as it moves up and around the abdomen, ending in the rectum.

DHCI or IRMC

Sigmoidoscopy

The visual examiniation of the inside of the rectum and sigmoid colon, using a lighted, flexible video endoscope.  This last part of the colon, just above the rectum, is called the sigmoid colon.

Office only

Capsule Endoscopy

PillCam video capsule ingested to examine the entire small intestines.  While the video capsule travels through the body, it sends images to a data recorder, which is worn close to the waist.  Afterward the physician will view the images on a video monitor.

IRMC only

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

This procedure uses a flexible, telescope like instrument called an endoscope to take x-ray pictures of the ducts that drain your liver (bile ducts) and pancreas.
